About Us

...and How We Grow

We are two humans and a dog on a 1/2 acre of land, working on transforming our home into a farm, food forest, and small nursery.

The Artemis Guild is my regenerative and ecological gardening business employing Permaculture, Natural Farming, and Jadam techniques to create unique, multi-functional landscapes. I partner up with other like minded local landscapers to ensure every step of the project is in alignment with the values of these practices. I also teamed up with Amma's New England ashram to work on the Embracing the Trees Project (a trillion trees planted around the world can reverse climate change). My goal is to create a local network of gardeners, landscapers, and farmers that can share resources and support each other's endeavors while healing the land and ourselves.

We live in a disposable society where rampant consumerism is commonplace. Even purchasing things like plants or vegetables usually involves plastic, and tending a farm or garden can make us dependent on chemical fertilizers or expensive commercial products.  Despite, or as a reaction to "urgency" culture, we spend a lot of time observing here, watching nature's cycles come full circle in order to learn. Things are accomplished in phases. We utilize indigenous microbes, plants, and the gift of time to create living inputs, soil, and ecosystems. Permaculture, KNF, and Jadam empower us all to free ourselves from mega corporations and to create what we need with what is readily available around us,  allowing nature to be the teacher. As we follow her, we synchronize with the seasons and all living things to improve our soil, our physical and mental health, and our relations. We humbly acknowledge that we occupy ancestral land of the Saquatucket / Wampanoag people. The "Regenerative Agriculture" movement's purpose is to renew and repair the damage that has been done to the environment. The way to achieve this is by implementing the indigenous land practices that promoted harmony and health pre European settlement. These practices can heal the world, and indigenous people must be recognized for this.

Feeding plants and soil / Inputs: We utilize Korean Natural Farming and Jadam techniques to formulate organic, often edible solutions for foliar feeding, soil drenches, and soil building. To learn more about Korean Natural Farming and Jadam, click here.

Soil: No till gardens, IMO4, cover crops, weeds and pioneer plants, layering with cardboard and organic matter, chop and drop, goat manure, soil drenches with the following KNF and Jadam preparations: IMO (Indigenous Microorganism), LIMO (Liquid Indigenous Microorganism), JMS (Jadam Microbial Solution), JLF (Jadam Liquid Fertilizer), FSW (fermented seawater), SOS (Soil Treatment Solution).

Wood chips: Wood chips are used for mushroom growing, IMO3, and soil building. They are layered with mushroom spawn and IMO and put into swales and trenches to retain moisture. In a years time, this will be compost that will be added to the berm. Then prunings are tossed into the swales to repeat the process.

Water: Soft water, rain water, grey water, implementation of swales and berms to stop water runoff, spread it, and soak the soil.

Seed saving: We save seeds, and we stop dead heading in late summer to leave seed for the birds in winter.

Plastic: We do not use weed barrier mats. Our plant pots are saved and recycled, and local customers can return the pots to us. We do not buy plastic pots or bottles for plants or inputs / products.
